If you live in Richmond, south Vancouver, or south Burnaby and have been annoyed by a loud, jet-plane like noise over the past week, you’re not alone.
The City of Richmond says it has received multiple complaints.
It turns out there’s a plywood business along Vulcan Way near the Fraser River that’s been conducting safety testing on a new boiler but failed to get a noise-exemption permit and did not notify the city beforehand.
The city says the business has since been handed a noise-violation ticket, and has been advised that “no further testing” can take place until a noise exemption permit application is approved.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This noise is from a business in Richmond conducting safety testing of a new boiler. We are aware of the noise concerns and are following up with the business to take action.

“Be aware that should such an exemption be granted, it will stipulate the days/times when the noise is permitted and require the business to alert the neighbouring community of those days/times. Due to its proximity on the river, that will include residences across the water,” the City of Richmond said in an email Tuesday.
