Multiple pedestrians were struck by vehicles in three separate incidents Monday morning as a storm rolled through the Lower Mainland.
The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has been deployed to Langley after a pedestrian was left with critical injuries after being struck along Fraser Highway at 264th Street just before 6:30 a.m.

“We learned that a pedestrian had been struck by a commercial vehicle in that area. The pedestrian has been transported to a local area hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries. At this time, we would like to remind drivers to avoid that area,” he explained.
Sharoom adds that as the collision involves a commercial vehicle, the province’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Unit will also be attending the scene.
Monday’s weather, described earlier as a “potent” storm by Environment and Climate Change Canada, is believed to be a factor in the Langley collision.
“This is something that we’ll be taking a closer look at as well, but, as of right now, we can confirm, yes. There is a very heavy downpour here in Langley that we’re seeing today with a lot of wind. So, that would be one of the factors.
“We’re reminding pedestrians and cyclists, or any other road users, that are out there to wear some reflective clothing so that you can be easily identified by motorists,” Sharoom urged.
Meanwhile, a second pedestrian was struck and injured in Delta Monday morning.
The Delta Police Department says the incident happened along 84 Avenue at 116 Street around 6:30 a.m. The incident has closed the intersection in all directions.
“At the time of the collision, environmental conditions, it was still dark out, with rain and wind complicating things. So from our attendance, the pedestrian has been transported to hospital for treatment with injuries,” Acting Insp. James Sandberg told 1130 NewsRadio.
Sandberg adds the driver remained on the scene and is helping with the investigation.
“We have a team of officers that are on scene that are documenting the scene in order to preserve the evidence and the time required for these scans and recordings that are done, it can range greatly,” he said.
“Visibility would have been potentially an issue here. So, that’s one of the things that our team is going to be considering,” Sandberg added, sharing that it’s too early in the investigation to rule out any other factors.
Road closures are also in effect in Richmond after a third pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the area of No 2 Road and Steveston Highway.
ICARS has also been deployed to that collision, and detours are in place. The Richmond RCMP is asking drivers to avoid the area as they investigate the collision.
