The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says a section of Stewardson Way near 12th Street was closed following the crash shortly before 11 a.m.

The truck’s load appears to have come loose and pushed through the back of the cab.

BC Emergency Health Services says one ambulance attended the scene of the crash, and paramedics treated one patient who was “transported to hospital in critical condition.”

In an update around 2:15 p.m., NWPD said Stewardson Way would be completely closed between 3rd Avenue and 12th Street.

Around 5 p.m., callers to 1130 NewsRadio reported that Stewardson Way had reopened in all directions.

Drivers were advised to take 6th Avenue to avoid closures or delays near the closure.

“There is no alternate route for trucks through New West,” said police.
