Pedestrian seriously injured in downtown Vancouver hit-and-run

Police are investigating after the driver of a vehicle struck and injured a pedestrian in downtown Vancouver Wednesday.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says officers responded to reports of the collision on Columbia Street near East Hastings Street around 11:20 a.m.

Multiple emergency crews responded and police shut down traffic in the area.

BC Emergency Health Services says paramedics treated one patient who was taken to hospital in “serious, but stable, condition.”

The VPD confirmed the driver did not remain on scene.

Images from near the collision show debris scattered across the road.

As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, police had reopened the two streets.
