Elderly man victim of hit and run in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – An elderly man had to be taken to hospital after being launched several metres in the air by a hit-and-run driver in Abbotsford.

Constable Ian Macdonald says it happened yesterday at 3:15 p.m. when the 73-year-old was trying to cross Clearbrook Road near Hillcrest when he was hit. “The impact launched the man approximately 25 feet in the air. The pedestrian rolled from the bumper to the hood, onto the windshield, then up in the air.”

He tells us about 20 people saw what happened. “It is unlikely that any driver could claim that they were unaware of the collision.”

Macdonald says the man only has some cuts and bruises and should be released from hospital later today. The driver of the car sped off and police are looking for the driver of a beige or light brown sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
