VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It appears climate change is a heated issue as hundreds of Vancouverites made their stance known at the Vancouver Public Library.
It was just one of many events in the Lower Mainland, all of which were part of the “Tck, Tck, Tck” campaign for the International Day of Action. According to Sean Devlin of Climate Action Canada, demonstrations have taken place all over the world, with the global campaign delivering 10 million signatures to the leaders in Copenhagen last Monday and a million more have been gathered since.
Devlin also applauded Vancouver’s Mayor Gregor Robertson for his commitment to the climate issue. “He’s part of the contingent of a hundred mayors who are trying to pressure world leaders by showing that at the local level action is already being taken and they just need more assistance with that. And the mayor very kindly donated his time to shoot a promotional video for our event.”
He added that his group has more planned. “On Monday right across the country the Kyoto Plus campaign is delivering coal to MPs office’s right across the country, so the idea is it ties in with Christmas but it also ties in with the fossil fuel pollution we are trying to cut back.”
Devlin says per capita, Canadians have the highest carbon footprint.
Environment ministers from around the world have arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark to take part in the UN climate summit.
