VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A wise frog once said it’s not easy being green but in the case of the Green Men, it’s been nothing but a blast! News1130 had a rare chance to speak with one of them who will only identify himself as Force.
You’ve seen them at Canucks games behind the penalty box trying to bug opposing players with an odd, somewhat hypnotic dance. Force says going green has been a pretty cool experience. “People from 80-years-old, down to babies, it’s the same reactions. There’s a lot of bewildered looks but at the same time we have a lot of people coming up and saying good job and keep it up.”
Force and his buddy Sully got the idea for the Green Men from the TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. “We wanted to go down to the Seattle Seahawks game in the green suits. Unfortunately Sully’s suit didn’t arrive in time so, why not make it a Canucks game? The first game we went to was September 23rd and it kind of blew up from there.”
However, going to the bathroom is out of the question between periods. “It’s a little complicated in that suit!”
So they just hang out in the concourse. “Say hi to fans and kind of keep the energy level going. We kind of sit in that business section at GM Place and if it’s too quiet, we try and keep it up.”
