Jamie Bacon convicted on gun, drug charges

SURREY (NEWS1130) – One of the B.C.’s most notorious gangsters has been convicted on gun charges.  James “Jamie” Bacon will be sentenced next week, after being found guilty on 10 gun charges, and one drug charge.  His brother Jarrod Bacon was acquitted on the same charges.

Jamie Bacon was arrested after an April 2007 shooting incident, where police said rival gangsters attempted to kill Jamie in what the Crown called a “gang-style execution” outside his family’s home in Surrey.  Court heard that Bacon returned the gun-fire, and the gun he used ended up in a sophisticated secret compartment in an SUV parked in the family’s garage.

RCMP Sergeant Shinder Kirk with the Integrated Gang Task Force hopes it will send a message to other would-be thugs.  “We’re very hopeful that it will continue to send a message, and act as a deterrent to people who may be attracted to the lifestyle themselves.”  Kirk says police have made significant progress with gangs over the last year.

Jamie Bacon is also facing separate first-degree murder changes in the deaths of six people, including two innocent bystanders, in a suburban Surrey apartment.

While Jarrod Bacon was acquitted on the gun charges today, he was charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine in a separate case last November.

Today’s ruling in the case against Jamie Bacon and Jarrod Bacon is available here.
