Whitecaps clinch another draw

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – It wasn’t the homecoming the Vancouver Whitecaps wanted with the home side giving up two set-piece goals in their 2-2 draw with the Austin Aztex in front of over 5,000 fans at the Swangard Stadium this afternoon.

Vancouver came out buzzing the first half, outshooting their opponent 6-2. Cornelius Stewart opened the scoring for the home side in the 16th minute on a great feed from Captain Martin Nash, beating Aztex keeper Miguel Gallardo.

Austin equalized right before half-time, but ‘Caps took a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute on an impressive goal from Ridge Mobulu who scored from the goal-line, beating the keeper and a defender to the ball.

With the game winding down, the Caps seemed to be out of steam and it proved costly with Austin beating Jay Nolly in the 80th minute securing the draw.  It was Nolly’s 100th game with the club.

The Caps are home to the Puerto Rico Islanders Sunday September 5th.
