Report: Police could catch criminals quicker

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It took years to link the disappearances of Clifford Olson’s victims, possibly because local police forces weren’t sharing information. Thirty years later, it seems there is still a lack of communication.

Critics say Clifford Olsen managed to keep ahead of police because they were busy protecting the own turf instead of sharing information.

More recently, a report into the handling of the Robert Pickton case found police probably could have caught him earlier, with the VPD blaming jurisdictional barriers, poor management and shoddy analysis of information.

The government and some police leaders claim things have changed since the days of Olson, especially with the creation of integrated policing units. But critics tell The Vancouver Sun all those units do is add layers of bureaucracy to an investigation.
