VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was on this date 48 years ago the remnants of a tropical storm slammed into coastal Oregon, Wash. and the Lower Mainland causing seven deaths in this country and 46 in the US.  With winds gusts of up to 145 km/h in Victoria and 157 km/h in Abbotsford, the damage was widespread and estimated at over $10 million ($72 million in 2010).

More 3,000 trees were flattened in Stanley Park as Typhoon Freda, the most powerful cyclone ever to make landfall hit this part of the world.
