Hospital foundation loses $3 million in first home lottery

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – What’s happened to all the donor dollars?

The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation is thinking about getting out of the home lottery business after a significant loss this year. It lost $3 million in its inaugural BC Vacation Home Lottery as six charities compete for cash across the Lower Mainland.

The foundation’s vice president tells the Vancouver Sun it could have something to do with increased competition or the fact people are being more cautious with their money.

The news isn’t bad for everyone; at least two other charities that run home lotteries are still bringing in cash.
