VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Is your laptop safe? How about that brand new iPad?
As post-secondary students head back to school, a survey shows few are thinking about renters insurance. Henry Blumenthal with TD Insurance says when something bad happens, like your hotplate starts a fire or your laptop is stolen, you don’t want to find out you don’t have protection.
“There’s a lot of renters and students that would not be covered. And not only will it cover your contents, it’ll protect you for you liability and also provide you with additional living expenses at the moment of a loss.”
According to TD’s new survey, 38 per cent of Canadian renters under the age of 35 are putting their possessions and personal finances at risk because they don’t have renters insurance.
Blumenthal adds it’s never too late to apply for insurance and has a few tips:
1. Check if you’re covered under your parents’ policy
2. Look for simple ways to save
3. Ensure you’re covered for liability, too
4. Understand your coverage
5. Take inventory of your belongings
