Group looks to Recall & Initiative Act to stop smart meters

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Could the legislation that helped kill the HST be revived to snuff out the province’s smart meter project? That is the hope of A new group called ‘Stop Smart Meters.’

Organizers are counting on the Recall and Initiative Act and hundreds of thousands of signatures to grind smart meter installation to a halt. The group will soon begin a pre-registration program where concerned citizens can add their voice.

‘Stop Smart Meters’ worries smart meters are a health concern because of the radiation they emit. There are also worries about the personal information they collect.

BC Hydro says using a cell phone for any length of time is probably worse and insists the information it gathers is not shared. It also claims well under one per cent of its customers have raised concerns over smart meters.

Hydro should be finished installing next year.
