Facebook privacy warning

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you haven’t taken a good hard look at your privacy settings on Facebook lately, here’s another good reason to do it.  You might be inadvertently exposing yourself to hundreds of thousands of people.

It’s the ‘Friends of Friends’ option you should look at; the default on the drop-down list when you are choosing who to make posts visible to on your Facebook page.

‘Friends of Friends’ makes posts, photos and status updates available to all your friends and all their friends.

Pew Research Centre crunched the numbers and found sharing with those two degrees of separation exposes the average Facebook user to more than 150,000 people.  For some users, it can hit over 7 million people.

As tech blogs, like Gizmodo, point out, chances are there are people out there you shouldn’t trust and that you don’t want to be sharing with.  They recommend a thorough review of your privacy settings.
