The Caps go Jamaican to nab a tie in Portland

PORTLAND, OR (NEWS1130) – Substitute Darren Mattocks scored in the 84th minute, a minute after entering the game as Whitecaps FC salvaged a 1-1 draw with the Timbers. Joe Cannon was solid between the sticks for Vancouver.

Eric Hassli headed a pass to Mattocks and the second overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft right-footed a high ball from twelve yards out to the level the game. It was the Jamaicans first goal in MLS.

The best chance of the first half came in the 45th minute as ‘Caps striker Camilo just put the ball high from in tight.

There was over a 30 minute rain delay between the end of the 1st half and the start of the second half because of rain and lightning in Portland.

The home side built up offensive pressure in the second half as Cannon stood tall in goal for the Whitecaps.
Unfortunately in the 67th minute Cannon couldn’t clear a a ball at the far post and Kris Boyd scored for the Timbers.

Vancouver now has two draws in the Cascadia Cup. The ‘Caps tied Seattle 2-2 at BC Place on May 19.
