Richard Branson in Surrey today for economic summit

SURREY (NEWS1130) – He’s the only person ever to create eight separate billion-dollar companies, each in a different sector. Richard Branson headlines a star-studded gathering of political and economic experts in Surrey today.

Surrey City Councillor Linda Hepner explains the city’s Regional Economic Summit at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel will focus on innovation, world economies, and upcoming US election.

She tells us there is an interesting panel of speakers today, including Christina Romer, former economic advisor to the White House, and Stephen Moore, Senior Economist at the Wall Street Journal.

“That’s going to be so exciting, to see the two of them with the opposite ends of the spectrum. I think it will be pretty engaging,” says Hepner.

She adds Branson will share his perspective on the importance of innovation and creativity as the world’s economies come out from under the international downturn.

Other guests include Eleanor Clift with Newsweek, and CNN political commentator Bill Bennett.

“It’s all about the exchange of ideas and how we, as a city of a half a million, can really bloom from the experiences of others,” says Mayor Dianne Watts.

Last year, former US presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were the headliners.
