MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Two people are confirmed dead after a massive explosion near Montreal this morning. Their bodies were found in the rubble.
The blast was at a fireworks warehouse and it rattled homes and neighbours and a huge cloud of black smoke could be seen for kilometres.
The nearby highway was shut down to all traffic soon after the explosion, causing a traffic jam. The highway has since been re-opened. Surrounding neighbourhoods and a campground were also evacuated.
The initial explosion at BEM Fireworks completely destroyed the building, which was reduced to charred scraps. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
