Warrant issued, reward offered in search for rogue dentist

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – The search has stepped up for an unlicensed Burnaby dentist.

A Canada-wide warrant and a reward have been issued. There’s also concern the man may be planning to set up a practice elsewhere.

The College of Dental Surgeons says a large quantity of dental supplies have been found in a car seized yesterday. That leads College Registrar Jerome Marburg to worry Tung Sheng Wu has plans to continue to treat patients.

“If he was to abandon that venture, one would expect he wouldn’t be taking dental supplies with him where he’s going, or shipping dental supplies wherever he’s going,” he tells us.

The College has put up a $2,000 reward.

The seized car was about to be shipped to Toronto, but Marburg suspects he may still be in this region. Marburg is urging anyone who knows where to find Wu to come forward.

“Any person harbouring Mr. Wu can contact us in confidence. We will apprehend him without need to reveal where or with whom he is staying.”

Fraser Health is concerned patients could have been exposed to HIV or Hepatitis B or C, so they’re encouraging people to get tested. So far, more than 100 people have contacted a hotline that’s been set up by the health authority.

Fraser Health continues to urge all of Wu’s former clients to call the toll-free hotline: 1-855-895-7425. Calls can be answered in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Translation is available for individuals who require service in other languages. All calls are confidential.
