Record setting summer at YVR

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – 70,000 people are expected to pass through YVR everyday next week, making it their busiest week ever.

Vancouver Airport Authority’s Reg Krake says it’s not just tourists flying into town. “It is a very popular time to travel for people on vacation but also lots of students heading to and from university as well as international students and lots of cruise passengers as well, certainly a fantastic cruise season happening.”

Krake says they are on pace to see a record 18 million passengers by the end of the year. “We plan well in advance and in fact we knew there would be growth this year and July for example we had a seven per cent increase compared to July 2013 and we expect that trend to continue we are seeing record numbers across the airport.”

He encourages all passengers to arrive at least two hours ahead of their international flight, while domestic travellers should get their 90 minutes before.

Other tips include checking in online, printing boarding passes at home, reserving parking online, and ensuring familiarity with restrictions on items not permitted in carry-on and checked baggage.
