VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local business is backing the BCTF in the dispute between teachers and the province.
Co-owner of Bandidas Taqueria in East Vancouver Jackie Avery says education in this province is vital.
“[Every] Wednesday we are going to give 100 percent of our profit to Families Funding Teachers, which is an online platform that makes it easier to donate to the BCTF strike fund.”
Avery says the restaurant wanted to do what it could to help out the teachers. “We believe that teaching is one of the most important roles in our society and should be really loudly valued.”
She adds people from the community are very supportive of the move. ” [We have received] emails and phones calls of support, and a local brewing company R and B just donated some kegs to amp up the profits on those days.”
The restaurant will continue to donate the money for the duration of the strike and hopes to raise between two and three thousand dollars weekly.
