Fires damage church and co-op in Metro Vancouver

NORTH VANCOUVER(NEWS1130)- Around 25 families are homeless after fire tore through several suites of a housing co-op in North Vancouver.
One of four buildings in the complex on Brockton Crescent is badly damaged. Fire crews say it spread quickly on the second floor after getting into the attic.
The West Vancouver Fire Department assisted in fighting the flames.
Alex could only look on in shock as firefighters tackled the fire in his building. “Our unit is damaged for sure. Our unit is wet and smoke damaged. You know, it’s scary to watch your unit burn.”
He’ll be staying with his son.
Emergency services was on hand to help the tenants find places to stay. There were no injuries.
Earlier, the roof of a church on East 50th and Quebec St in South Vancouver suffered extensive damage because of a fire.
Fire crews say it was called in by roofers working on the building.
No one was hurt.
