VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Have you bought your ticket yet? People across Canada are dreaming of what they would do if they won Friday’s giant Lotto Max jackpot of $60 million.
It seems Vancouverites would be a generous bunch if they suddenly found themselves with millions of dollars to burn.
“I would help people in the Downtown Eastside. I would be handing out one hundred dollar bills!” said one man who had bought his ticket earlier in the week.
“My son was born in BC Children’s Hospital, so I would give 20 per cent of my winnings to the hospital,” said a convenience store employee.
“I would help my parents out and help some charities that I’ve been involved with,” said a man who just bought his ticket.
But most cited a new home and retirement as priorities.
Friday’s prize is not the biggest jackpot given out in Canada. That happened in 2013, when 63.4 million was doled out in a 6-49 draw.
The odds, by the way, of one ticket winning the $60-million jackpot are one in 28.6 million. Those may be unbeatable odds, but for this man, they’re enough to make concrete, and very Canadian, plans.
“I’d build a nice house with my own ice rink so my kids would be able to play hockey at home and I wouldn’t have to get up at 5:45 a.m. to coach.”
