SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – Our hunt to find Vancouver’s Worst Commute is over for another year, and we’re going out with quite the story.
Gary Lam drives from Squamish every day. He drops his wife off in the Cassiar area of Vancouver and then heads into Delta.
“We (my wife and I) will leave the house at 6 a.m. typically (so we can beat the upper highways rush – if we hit this rush it will add another 20 minutes easily), drive the Sea To Sky Highway, Upper [Levels] Highway and then I drop my wife off by the Cassiar Connector (we leave her car there and she travels to Vancouver for work – this in itself is another 12-minute detour).”
He then jumps back on the highway, goes through Burnaby and takes the Brunette exit to go through New Westminster then over the Pattullo Bridge and into the heart of North Delta.
“Due to my work, I travel throughout Delta and three times a week, I will have to also go to Ladner and Tsawwassen, which can add another 30 minutes on my commute. I will then get off work around 5 p.m. and then make my way (same route back) to pick up my wife and go home.”
Gary figures it takes them about 1 hour and 45 minutes, so approximately three hours round trip.
“On any given day, I will travel through seven cities (Squamish, passing West Van, North Van, touching East Vancouver, through Burnaby, New Westminster, and into North Delta) and that is if I don’t have to Tsawwassen and Ladner.”
Gary picks up our last weekly prize of $500 from Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey. He’s also in the draw to win a trip for two to Mexico from Transat Holidays — we’ll announce those winners on Monday!
Thanks to the hundreds of people who played this year; we’ll do it all again next fall!
