Boil water advisory lifted in White Rock

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) – As NEWS 1130 first told you, a boil water advisory for folks living in White Rock has been lifted. Following two straight days of testing, the city says the lab results show the water is clean and safe to use.
“Thankfully, we didn’t find anything. Essentially, we got our second set of results and we’ve reviewed them with Fraser Health and there were no traces of any chloroform or bacteria which was the reason for the precautionary ban,” says Bob Ambardar with the City of White Rock.
He adds Sunday morning’s massive fire that gutted some condo buildings around Johnston Road and Pacific Avenue drained resources and prompted the alert.
“When that happens you can get backflow from residents’ and buildings into our system and that can have bacteria in it. As a precaution we issued the ban in case [something] developed in our system.”
As for Sunday’s fire — it’s still unknown what sparked it. Police say it’s too early to call it arson, but the investigation is specifically focused on a construction site behind the damaged condos which is where the blaze was first reported.
“The fire scene right now is still under control of the White Rock Fire Department and we’re just helping them with security until they are able to get in with their investigators and determine whether the fire is suspicious, and our investigators will help them through that process. And then we will take over and conduct a criminal investigation if they determine the fire is suspicious and/or arson,” explains Sergeant Joel Glen.
He adds they hope to have a better idea of what caused the fire by the end of the week.
