Life jackets could soon be mandatory on float planes

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you travel by float plane, a life jacket may soon be a mandatory part of your outfit.
Since six people died in 2009 off Saturna Island in a Seair float plane crash, Transport Canada has been exploring ways to make survival more likely.
Bill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board hopes making this proposed change will save lives. “Float plane accidents are rare, they don’t happen often. We find when they do happen , people drown.
these recommendation and these changes are a good step to help people survive.”
If these recommendations go through, pilots will also be required to get special training to learn how to escape a submerged plane.
