VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – There is still no job action at Canada Post as negotiations continue in an effort to reach a deal with postal workers.
But a consumer expert believes this situation is souring opinions about the postal service.
“The union and the post office are playing with fire here,” says Bruce Cran with the Consumers Association of Canada.
He feels this situation could make people realize they don’t need Canada Post, as there there are other options. “It’s a very, very competitive service. To place yourself where you’re jeopardizing your integrity by going in for strikes and all the rest of it… [worsens] the problems they already have.”
“If people do find a better means of getting their important mail, they’re going to stick with it, if it works,” adds Cran.
So far, neither Canada Post or the union have given the required 72 hours notice of a lockout or any job action.
Some companies have already opted to start using UPS or Purolator in case any job action does happen.
