TransLink pulling out all the stop in preparation for more snow

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – TransLink says plans are in motion to make sure ice and snow don’t cut power to buses and Skytrains this week.

Coast Mountain Bus Company engineer Richard Haukka says they have three trucks to de-ice trolley bus lines.

And be believes buses are well equipped, despite challenges on Monday. “We have a fleet of three trucks, and we have 300 kilometres of trolley overhead wire that needs to be coated nightly when we need it, so with three trucks, that 100 kilometres each, it takes about six hours to do that work.”

“We no longer have to winterize any of our equipment, we run all the vents, the coolants, and we run all the wiper blades and everything and are all changed preemptively all year long so we don’t have to worry about if there is a surprised in the weather. We actually run a recommended tire by Michelin.”

Meanwhile, eight Skytrains have been equipped with nozzles to de-ice the lines as they run, while trains will run through Thursday night to prevent snow build up.
