Fatal crash shuts down Deltaport Way for several hours

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Part of a major trucking route south of the Fraser River has been shut down indefinitely following a fatal crash earlier this morning.

It happened on Deltaport Way near Highway 17 at around 2:30 am when a semi-truck collided with a car.

Police say the driver of the car was traveling eastbound on Deltaport Way, then crossed into the westbound lanes into the path of the semi.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Surrey, died en route to the hospital.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to the hospital suffering from shock but didn’t have any physical injuries.

Delta Police will remain on scene for the next several hours as they conduct the scene investigation.
