Two dead in Surrey fire

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Two people are dead and three others were hurt after a fire at a licensed medical marijuana grow op in Surrey.

Crews were called to the house on 163rd south of 95th at around 7 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Jason Cairney says two people were in the top part of the home and were able to get outside.

“It’s at that point they were notified there were occupants unaccounted for inside the residents, so they began to try to combat the fire and search for those residents.”

The two people in the basement area did not survive. A firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Cairney says it appears the wiring around the grow-op caused the fire.

“The fire is believed to have started in some of the electrical equipment associated with that in the basement area.”

The fire is believed to be accidental in nature.
