VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a big birthday for a legendary chain of BC restaurants as White Spot celebrates its 90th anniversary.
Founder Nat Bailey started selling peanuts and hot dogs out of a Ford Model T and then opened the original White Spot drive-in at Granville Street and 67th Avenue in Vancouver on Jun. 16, 1928.
White Spot President Warren Erhart says you’re in for a special treat if you visit today.
“Everybody that comes to our restaurants will get a commemorative coin with a likeness of Nat Bailey on one side and one of our logos over the different generations on the other as well that we’re going to present to everyone.”
He adds the restaurant has a special place in the hearts of many people thanks to nostalgia.
“Whether you’re here for Sunday brunch, a first date, a special birthday or your very first Pirate Pak, we have something on the menu for every occasion. On behalf of all our people, I’d like to thank our long-time guests for their support and invite newcomers to see what’s made us BC’s Own restaurant for all these years.”
Although the chain is best known for its legendary burger with Triple “O” sauce, for a limited time, it’s also bringing back Chicken in the Straw, a quarter chicken and coleslaw served on a “nest” of Kennebec fries.
The limited time items will be available until Jul. 15.
White Spot says it serves 12 million people every year in over 65 locations in both BC and Alberta.
