A soggy end to summer, with a rainfall warning in effect

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Today’s rainfall warning is making for a messy commute, which isn’t exactly the way most people hoped to celebrate the final day of summer.

Environment Canada’s rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver calls for a total of 50 to 75 mm of rain. There may be localized flooding in low-lying areas.

But NEWS 1130 meteorologist Russ Lacate says there is some good news coming soon. “Let’s not gauge your early-autumn forecast based on this stormy finish to summer because next week, into the new season, it absolutely calms down.”

“Comparatively speaking, it will be a kinder, gentler early-fall forecast with featuring a complete absense of any storms and considerably more sunshine than what we’re accustomed to.”

Russ says October’s rainfall amounts are expected to skew well below average. Autumn arrives Saturday evening.
