Burnout syndrome is real, and getting worse

In today’s Big Story podcast, more of us than ever before are burning out at work. The rise in this kind of stress, in fact, is pronounced enough that last week the World Health Organization categorized “burnout” as an official occupational syndrome. That means no, you might not just be having a rough couple weeks. You might really need help. Because we know now that the end of this path isn’t pretty.
Why are we more stressed at work than we’ve ever been? Will having WHO-approved medical language help employers and employees address the problem? What do you do when a weekend away doesn’t fix anything? How can you tell when someone’s in danger of flaming out, and how do you talk about it with them?
