Vancouver (NEWS 1130) – A majority of British Columbians support the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, according to a new survey, a day ahead of an expected federal approval of the project.
According to an Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Resource Works, out of 803 residents, 60 per cent either strongly or somewhat support the expansion project which would twin the pipeline between Alberta and Metro Vancouver. Eleven per cent of people said they have not made up their minds yet.
Although a majority of residents in all areas of the province support the plan, support was highest in the interior and northern regions at 63 per cent, and lowest in Metro Vancouver at 59 per cent.
Support was higher among men – 70 per cent – than women – 52 per cent.
The latest survey shows approval for the project is up from 55 per cent in April 2018.
Hundreds gathered outside Science World in Vancouver on June 9 for a final push against the pipeline.
The federal government’s long-awaited decision on the expansion is expected Tuesday.
