Suspicious death of well-known Vancouver businessman, John McIver, treated as homicide

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have confirmed the suspicious and sudden death of a longtime figure in Vancouver’s retail industry is being investigated as a homicide.
The body of 78-year-old John Leslie McIver was found at McIver’s Appliance Sales and Service near Ontario Street and East 69th Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
McIver — who owned and operated the business for more than 50 years — was well-known in the community.

This is Vancouver’s sixth homicide of the year. No arrests have been made, and police are still looking to speak with anyone who may have information about the death.
Man released in connection with fifth homicide of the year
It comes a day after a 33-year-old man was found shot to death in an apartment building in the area of Main Street and East 35th Avenue. Police were called to the area around 9:45 p.m. and had the area locked down for several hours.
The victim has been identified as Vaughan Bradley Lim, who’s from Burnaby.
Vancouver police had arrested a 30-year-old, who has since been released from custody.

The VPD says no charges have been laid, and that the investigation is ongoing.
The two incidents are not believed to be related.
