Vancouver city councillor looking to green local film industry

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Vancouver city councillor wants a replacement for gas and diesel generators by the end of the year. But Adriane Carr says the film and food truck industries can’t make the green switch to electric plug-ins until the city supplies reliable power.

“Generators aren’t very pleasant to be around. They’re noisy, they emit fumes, they smell, there’s particulate matter that’s not very healthy,” she says. “The industry itself, I think, is very keen to get off them but wants reliable sources of power so it can’t do it unless we can supply that reliable power.”

Carr wants the electric plug-ins to cut down on carbon emissions and says Vancouver could be the greenest location for the film industry.

“It’s a really a win-win from the city’s point of view, and the people who live here wanting to see action on climate change and air quality, and a win for the film industry too.”

Carr says both industries have been asking for electric options. The motion is scheduled to be heard by Vancouver City Council on Tuesday.
