Fraudulent consultant sentenced in huge immigration scam

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A fraudster has been handed a 20 month sentence and a nearly $45,000 fine for his part in a massive immigration scam.
In an email statement, The Canada Border Services Agency says Xiao Feng He pleaded guilty to passport fraud and misrepresentation as an unlicensed consultant and is now going to provincial jail.
There were 151 clients of He’s who paid about $1.2 million to New Can Consultants and Wellong International Investments for fraudulent services, including making it look like they live in B.C., to maintain permanent resident status and obtain Canadian citizenship.
The New Can and Wellong case is the single largest investigation of immigration fraud in B.C. history, the CBSA says.
From 2006 to 2013, hundreds of people collectively paid $10 million for fraudulent services, it adds.
So far, nine people have been sentenced in the case.
The presiding judge in the case said He recieved an additional two month sentence compared to other New Can consultants for his heavy involvement in the case.
