BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Can you tell the difference between a package of sour gummy candy and cannabis edibles?
That’s the question from Burnaby RCMP after they seized cannabis products during an investigation led by RCMP and Burnaby RCMP Frontline members as well as the Burnaby Drug Section.
When it comes to the edibles, it wasn’t just candy that worried officers.
Other items seized include potato chips, drinks, cookies, cheesecake, and even macaroni and cheese.
When we seized these drugs we were struck at how similar they looked to store-bought products,
says Corporal Brett Cunningham with Burnaby RCMP. We’re asking that if you have these kinds of edibles in your home that you are careful where you leave them and ensure they are not confused for non-cannabis products.
RCMP are now reminding parents to be careful, as some of the items look similar to products that don’t contain cannabis and can be found at regular stores.
They’re also asking parents to warn their children of the risks, as the vibrant packaging may be appealing to kids and teens.
Edibles should be labeled, and stored in child-resistant containers while being kept at home.
While edibles are now legal in Canada and should be available for purchase in the coming months, RCMP says they will continue to crack down on illegal dispensaries that sell edibles.
