One dead, three seriously hurt in Ottawa shooting

OTTAWA — Police in Ottawa say one person has died and three others have been taken to the hospital in serious condition after a shooting apparently at a home in the central part of the capital.

Ottawa police tweeted on Wednesday that they were responding to the incident on Gilmour Street, in a residential area, about a kilometre south of Parliament Hill. They urged people to avoid the area.

Acting Insp. Francois D’Aoust said police believe the shooting was targeted and there was no active gunman. Police are, however, still looking for a suspect.

Calls reporting the shooting began coming in at around 7:30 a.m. local time. Several people were hurt.

Catherine McKenna, the member of Parliament for the area, said she was aware of the shooting and said her thoughts are with the injured.

One person who lives in the area said the home where the shooting took place is an Airbnb with three units across two floors.
