One woman dies, divers brought in to search for man after boat capsizes in Pitt River

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — RCMP divers are being brought in to try to locate the body of a 25-year old man who is believed drowned in the Pitt River in Coquitlam.
Sgt. Paul Vadik with Coquitlam Mounties says an adult woman is also dead, and three others have been hospitalized after their boat capsized this morning on the river south of Munro Creek.
“One adult male remains missing,” says Sgt. Paul Vadik with Coquitlam RCMP. “We’ve activated the RCMP dive team to locate that missing male.”
There were five people in the boat, the other three have been rescued.
Police say the conditions likely contributed to the accident.
“The weather at the time was extremely windy, creating large waves with swells and whitecaps,” according to Vadik. “Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in this unfortunate incident.”
He says they have recovered the boat and will be inspecting it to see what condition it was in at the time.
The three people who were rescued were taken to hospital but no update on the conditions, ages, or genders is available.
