Hollywood 3 Cinema theatres reopen Friday

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Some families waiting to watch a movie inside a B.C. theatre again will be able to, starting this Friday night.

The Hollywood 3 Cinemas theatre chain has been cleared to reopen under new rules tailored to follow COVID-19 safety orders.

Theatres in Surrey, Pitt Meadows, White Rock, and Duncan have the green light from WorkSafe BC and local health authorities to operate –as long as they keep numbers to 50 or less.

“We’ve been working for the last few weeks getting plexiglass and all of our PPE (personal protective equipment) and training staff to the new normal,” says Rahim Manji, director of Hollywood Cinemas.

Staff will also be keeping customers at least three seats apart unless they live in the same home.

“We want to make sure that we go slow. So if you’re coming, come early, so we get everybody in on-time and in an orderly fashion,” Manji says.

He says customers have been asked to pay with credit cards, so they can easily be reached if there’s an outbreak.

“If anything were to happen in the community, public health has a way of getting a hold of people if need be.”

Nightly showings of E.T. and daily matinees of Trolls World Tour will be a flat rate of $5.

Manji also asking anyone planning on attending to get there early to make sure they get a seat.

“If you feel like you want to come to the concession stand you can. If not, you’re able to go straight into the theatre because we have a minimum of one hour in between shows to disinfect the theatres,” he adds.

If all goes well, the chain hopes to expand even more by mid-July when some big blockbusters were slated for release.

“Distributors are holding on movies just because there are not enough tickets that can be sold for them to recoup their costs,” says Manji.
