NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — One local museum is trying to get a jump on documenting life in the time of COVID-19.
While the New Westminster Museum and Archives can’t accept donations at the moment, the community is invited to share photos, videos, or objects to document the pandemic and for possible inclusion in a curated collection.
The museum is also looking to conduct interviews with locals about their own coronavirus experiences.
The curator will work with possible donors to put together profiles of the possible objects and what they mean.
An interesting project out of #NewWestminster – the New Westminster Museum & Archives is trying to get a jump on documenting life in the time of #COVID19. It’s inviting locals to suggest objects or photos that could be part of a curated collection.

The items will eventually be turned over to the museum, once it’s safe.
The museum is also encouraging people to keep diaries during this time, or to keep what it calls a digital diary, using #nwcovidlife. It says doing so could benefit one’s mental health.
Audio and video interviews are also an option, so the museum is looking for locals from a broad base of different backgrounds who would like to share their experiences through a Zoom interview.
The interviews would be one-on-one with a staff member, or could be part of a larger discussion.
There’s also a collective reflection event happening at the museum on June 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. Interested participants should reach out to the curator, Oana Capota, at ocapota@newwestcity.ca.
