Ticket prices drop to $5 at reopened Cineplex, Landmark theatres

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Theatre chains in B.C. are slashing their prices to entice moviegoers back into their socially distanced seats.
A limited number of theatres reopened Friday after a months-long shut down prompted by COVID-19.
Sarah Van Lange with Cineplex, which has opened eight of its 24 theatres in B.C., says discounts will likely last until the end of July.
“Regardless of the experience, regardless of the showtime, regardless of the title your movie is going to cost $5 and $3 on Tuesdays,” she says.
“We’re really just trying to build confidence with the public that moviegoing is a safe exercise, that they can come and spend time with us and feel good about it.”

Landmark Cinemas also reopened two Lower Mainland locations.
They’ve also dropped ticket prices to $5 and $2.99 on Tuesdays.
A date for when prices will go back to pre-pandemic normal hasn’t been set. Van Lange says it will depend on a number of factors, including when Hollywood starts releasing new content.
To borrow a phrase from Doctor Bonnie Henry: it’s not forever, but it is for now.
