Fundraiser for Vancouver baby $1 million away from life-saving treatment

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A baby girl from Vancouver is just $1 million away from getting a life-saving treatment for her rare genetic disorder.
The family of three-month-old Lucy has already raised $2 million to treat her spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that affects her ability to crawl, sit, and even swallow.

Thousands of people from 80 countries around the world have donated to the gofundme campaign and family members say they’re grateful for all the support.
“We honestly can’t believe it. We want to thank all our donors,” the organizer writes. “The ones that have been along since the first few thousand dollars to the very last ones that just donated today. YOU are making a difference and YOU are the reason we can celebrate another major milestone.”
Lucy has even garnered the attention of celebrities, including Olivia Wilde and Ryan Reynolds, who have also chipped in to help raise funds.
