Man drowns in Squamish’s Browning Lake

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – There’s a been another drowning in Sea to Sky country.

RCMP in Squamish say a man in his mid-20s died after slipping into Browning Lake in Murrin Provincial Park around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to Mounties, the man had been on an inflatable device when he fell into the water and couldn’t be found.

Friends and witnesses who saw what happened jumped in the water and eventually located him. However, despite giving him CPR and getting him off to the hospital, the man didn’t make it.

“Water safety has always been a concern in the Sea to Sky and the ocean, lakes and rivers in the Squamish area are no exception,” says Sergeant Sascha Banks.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends. I unfortunately have had to provide this Adventuring Safely message in the Sea to Sky far too many times, I can only ask that you please please be safe in our communities.”

The RCMP is now looking at the moments leading up to the drowning. They are asking anyone who may have information about what happened to contact investigators at 604.892.6100.

This is the second drowning in Sea to Sky country over the past few weeks. On July 28, a Vancouver man, also in his 20s, died after he went swimming in Alta Lake in Whistler. He was pulled from the water but didn’t survive.
