Worker at Site C dam project tests positive for COVID-19: BC Hydro

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Site C dam project near Fort St. John has recorded its second case of COVID-19 since January.
BC Hydro confirmed a worker tested positive on Tuesday and is now isolating at home in the Lower Mainland.
It’s believed they were exposed before spending time at the camp on Sept. 7.
“While at the site and in the lodge, the employee followed all prescribed health protocol guidelines including wearing a mask and physical distancing,” a statement from BC Hydro reads.
“The employee did not leave camp or have any interaction with the local community.”
@bchydro news release indicates exposure likely happened before September 7th and contact tracing led to undisclosed number of people told to monitor for symptoms.
Because risk of transmission deemed low, construction continues.

When the worker returned home this past weekend, they had been exposed to someone who later tested positive for COVID-19 before travelling to the site.
“BC Hydro has been closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19 since January. Extensive measures to protect the health and safety of workers on the Site C project have been implemented to reduce the potential for transmission at camp.”
Construction continues because the transmission risk is low, but some people have been asked to monitor themselves for symptoms.
