Burnaby long-term care home hit with another COVID-19 outbreak

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — A long-term care home in Burnaby has a new outbreak of COVID-19.
According to the Fraser Health Authority, a staff member at George Derby Centre who tested positive is now isolating at home.
The George Derby Centre is a “campus of care,” which includes an independent living facility and a long-term care home.

The health authority says “enhanced control measures” have been put in place while it works to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the virus. Fraser Health adds it is “taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families.”

This isn’t the first time the virus has been active at the home, owned and operated by the George Derby Care Society.
During the last outbreak, one person died.
There are 15 active COVID-19 outbreaks in health-care facilities in B.C., including three hospitals and 12 long-term care and assisted-living homes.
