PARKSVILLE (NEWS 1130) — After a young woman was found dead on the median of Highway 19 near Parksville Saturday, Mounties on the Island are asking for help identifying a “vehicle of interest.”

The discovery of the 22-year-old woman’s body north of Exit 51 southbound closed the highway four-lane highway Saturday.

“Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the woman’s death, however early indications are she was the victim of a hit and run,” reads a release from Oceanside RCMP.

On Sunday, police appealed for help finding a vehicle and its driver.

“The vehicle is described as a brown 1991 Chevrolet Suburban with damage to the driver’s side headlight and bug screen,” according to police.

The BC licence plate is PD929F, and the vehicle was last seen on Saturday’s 5:15 p.m. ferry from Duke Point to Tsawassen.

Witnesses and anyone else with information or dashcam footage are being asked to call (250) 954-2952 and cite file 2020-430.
