Human remains found in recycling bin off Kits Point coast

Vancouver police are asking people in the Kitsilano neighbourhood to check if they have a large recycling bin with wheels missing after human remains were found in one Sunday. Isabelle Raghem has what we know so far.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) — Human remains were found in a recycling bin Sunday in the water off Kits Point, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The Canadian Coast Guard recovered the bin after multiple calls around 11 a.m.

The BC Coroner’s Service determined the remains in the bin were human.

“Investigators have determined it is a homicide,” says Const. Tania Visintin.

The identity of the body has not been determined.

“We don’t know anything about the victim,” she added.

“We are asking property managers for multi-dwelling buildings and local residents to check their recycling and garbage rooms to see if any large, blue, wheeled recycling containers are missing,” Visintin says.

Investigators are also asking anyone who saw a blue recycling bin floating in the water to call the Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500.
