SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Fraser Health has identified “clusters” of COVID-19 cases at an elementary school in Delta and an independent school in New Westminster, and both are opting to voluntarily close for two weeks.
There have been six positive cases at Jarvis Elementary School in Delta, according to a statement issued Saturday.
“The Delta School District has advised Fraser Health that they will functionally close Jarvis Elementary School for a two-week period due to the staffing challenges presented by the cluster,” reads a release from the health authority.
In New Westminster, there have been eight cases at Al-Hidayah School which is an independent school for students from kindergarten to Grade 4.
That school will also close voluntarily for two weeks due to staffing issues.
The news of these clusters came the same day an elementary school in Surrey became the first in the province to be ordered by a health authority to shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
